what is a lead magnet?

One of the most effective ways to grow your business is through lead magnets.

A lead magnet is a way to get your customer's attention by giving them an irresistible offer in exchange for their email address, name, and phone number.

When used correctly, they will help to quickly build your email list (aka leads) and generate more sales.  They can also be used in funnels to quickly turn cold traffic into customers.

What Makes A Good Lead Magnet

To have a high-converting lead magnet, you are going to need it to solve a problem immediately by offering a specific solution with instant value to the prospect. The more the solution is specific and the more targeted the audience, the better the lead magnet works.

This is why creating a lead magnet that's unique and has high-quality information that your customer absolutely needs to know, is key because what the lead magnet is doing is convincing the prospect that you're the right business to buy from over your competitors.

If your lead magnet lacks substance, you’re likely to lose audience attention very quickly. So don't be afraid to take the time to do some research on offering high-quality value.

3 Key Parts Of a Lead Magnet

  1. The intro - Start off your lead magnet by reminding your prospect of the pain that you're going to help them with. This will keep them engaged in reading further.
  2. The body - This is where you offer the solution.
  3. The CTA - This is your "Call To Action" It's where you tell them what their next step is by giving them the opportunity to book a call with you to learn more about you and what you do.

Types Of Lead Magnets

There are many types of lead magnets you can create. Here are some ideas.

1. Checklists - There can be a to-do list for everything. Checklists can function as a type of guide to complete certain tasks within a specific timeframe.  Checklists convert well because they're easy to consume and.. (spoiler alert) they're easy to create. Just make sure it's something you offer from your area of genius and not just a duplicate from someone else.

2. Hacks and Cheat Sheets - Who doesn't love a cheat sheet or hack? The benefit is that it makes it easier to accomplish a goal. This will save time, resources, and effort on the part of your prospect and it makes you a hero to them!

3. Guide -  Who doesn't love a "How-To" Guide that releases the latest insights to your prospect? Whether it's a how-to to put on make-up if you're over 50 to how to lose weight with a specific offer, everyone loves to get in on the details.

4. Zoom Invite/Webinar - Everyone loves a live session where they can engage with you and see you live. It establishes you as a leader and helps them get their questions answered easily.

5. E-books or Mini Books - Make them downloadable in PDF formats, which means that they’re very easily accessible. Although this is a lot longer to put together, it can be very effective if it's consumable information that doesn't take too long to read. Don't forget to have the content address important challenges and offer solutions.

Keep the tone more conversational and casual, like that of a blog post because it appeals to a wider audience. Don't make the book too general. The more niched the better it will convert.

6. Planner and Calendars - Use these to help your prospect reach a certain goal.

For example, you can offer a content calendar full of content suggestions for social media marketing. If you’re in the health industry, you can offer calendars to help potential leads achieve a healthier lifestyle by scheduling their daily meal plans and exercise.

Some additional thoughts, offering additional empty or semi-empty planners and calendars so that subscribers can fill in their own plans within your recommendations will allow them to operate in creativity and self-expression.

7. Bootcamp - Create a bootcamp that allows your prospect to get to a solution in 3 -  5 days. Create a video training that is delivered to them over a period of time and let them consume the information on their own schedule.  These videos should be made available at the click of a button once someone has successfully submitted their contact information.

A video bootcamp can offer a solution that e-books can't, and that's the human element. For those that are visual and audio learners...this is a great resource.

8. Product Trials -  If you have a product or service that is effective in a short period of time, this is a great option.

For example, if you run a cosmetics business, you can offer to send a free sample of your products.

On the other hand, if you offer tech services, you can give out free trials with limited-time offers. These trials will help to build confidence in your product and who you are.

9. Quizzes - Who doesn't love a great quiz that gives an outcome? Quizzes are fun, quick, and interactive and provide quick results that the user can take action on.
